Located in the beautiful County of Northumberland, but close to Newcastle upon Tyne, Wansbeck offers all the advantages of an urban location but with a quality of life second to none.
The main settlements of Ashington, Newbiggin and Bedlington are surrounded by some of England’s finest countryside, and Northumberland’s stunningly beautiful coastline and network of attractive towns and villages.
Newcastle is only 20mins away, with excellent communications and transport links on hand. London is less than an hours flight from Newcastle International airport and only 2 ¾ hours by rail. The District has good road links south on the A189 to Newcastle and A1.
Wansbeck is a compact district covering an area of 67 square km (27 square miles), which means even the most isolated parts of the district are no more than 6km from the key urban areas.
The population is currently 61,000, and the main settlement of Ashington having a resident population of 28,000.
Wansbeck has been successful in a national Government competition for funding to help local economies in Neighbourhood Renewal Areas achieve a transformational change. Chosen from a shortist of 10, out of 70 bidders nationally, the award of £11.8 million for the next three years will provide a further boost to the renaissance of Wansbeck as a vibrant place to live, work, visit and do business.
