Castle Morpeth is the Gateway to Northumberland, with the ancient market town of Morpeth at its centre. With a population of 49,800, Castle Morpeth is one of six districts that make up the county of Northumberland.

The Borough comprises a mainly rural area of some 629 sq km, stretching from Matfen in the south-west to Druridge Bay in the north-east. The A1 provides the main arterial route through the Borough and we are well connected to the Tyne and Wear City Region.

There are many things that make Castle Morpeth unique, with an excellent quality of life, beautiful environment and access to the best of urban and rural life. The 2004 MORI survey found that 90% of residents indicated a high satisfaction with Castle Morpeth as a place to live.

Castle Morpeth is proud of its natural assets and cultural heritage. The award winning Carlisle Park has been described as ‘the jewel in Morpeth’s crown’ and features the William Turner Garden which commemorates ‘the father of English botany’. Castles, Woods and Water is a £15m programme in Morpeth which focuses on maximising the natural assets of Morpeth. The town centre of Morpeth is a bustling market town at the core of the Borough and County.
