The district of Alnwick lies in the heart of Northumberland, and is one of the most rural and sparsely populated districts in the UK, with an overall population of about 32,000.
It is stunningly beautiful and stretches from the unspoilt wilds of the Northumberland national Park, to the spectacular heritage coast, encompassing picturesque villages, historic market towns such as Alnwick, Amble and Rothbury, ancient castles including Alnwick Castle and breathtaking scenery, and is designated as an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.
There are many pursuits to be followed by residents and tourists alike; walking in the Cheviots, museums, leisure centre facilities, theatres, rural shows, farmers markets and the famous annual International Music festival.
We provide a wide range of services for local residents and work closely with our partners and local community groups to ensure the district remains an excellent place in which to live, work and visit. These services include
- Planning, building and development control and economic development
- Environmental services, including environmental health, refuse collection, recycling facilities, car parks, grass cutting and other horticultural care of public land
- Tourism and cultural development
- Local authority housing allocation, management and maintenance
- Collection of council tax and business rates and administration of housing and council tax benefit
We have a committed and friendly staff of 230 across all the sectors mentioned above, based at 4 sites throughout the district.
The A1 North/South can be easily accessed, as can the mainline railway station at Alnmouth giving easy access to the rest of the country.
